"Don't Just Sit There..." Seminar

"Don't Just Sit There..." is an assistive technology seminar on weight bearing and movement sponsored by Altimate Medical Inc, manufacturer of EasyStand® standing products. It is being offered as part of the seminar, titled "Simply Seating" by Freedom Designs Inc.

Attendees of "Don't Just Sit There" will understand why children need frequent position changes and how movement benefits their cognitive and physical development.  They will also understand the problems associated with Metabolic Syndrome and how movement can help maintain their overall health into adulthood.  Information on writing successful letters of medical necessity for assistive technology will also be discussed.

The presenter of "Don't Just Sit There" is Andy Hicks, ATP. Andy Hicks earned a degree in Occupational Therapy at Manchester College and began his career in OT focusing on the area of adaptive equipment for patients with neurological disorders. Later, Andy pursued his interest in adaptive equipment working as a Rehab Specialist for several rehab equipment suppliers. Prior to working with Altimate Medical, he was the Western Regional Manager for The ROHO Group for ten years.

"Simply Seating" Seminar

In "Simply Seating", the overall seating process will be reviewed. The child, adult and aged populations will be discussed with regard to skeletal development & deterioration, structural deformities, motor & sensory development & deterioration, skin, and other issues pertinent to seating. The benefits of early, independent mobility will be discussed in the context of neuroplasticity. Diagnoses such as, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, arthrogryposis, TBI, CVA, amputation, osteoporosis and arthritis will be addressed.
